ICCO Cheese Company, manufacturer of Gia Russa bread crumbs, is recalling a number of Gia Russa Unseasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs and Gia Russa Italian Seasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs with “best by” dates of 08/21/2019, 09/21/2019, 10/04/2019, 11/09/2019, 11/12/2019, 12/05/2019 because the product may contain trace amounts of tree nut allergens. The Zidian Group is the supplier/distributor of Gia Russa bread crumbs and does not manufacture the product or supply any of the product ingredients.
A consumer contacted us, suspecting tree nut residue in an open container of Gia Russa branded whole grain bread crumbs after her child had an allergic reaction to the product. We immediately contacted ICCO leadership, who informed the Food and Drug Administration. Independent laboratory tests commissioned separately by ICCO and by the consumer both indicated trace amounts of pecan and walnut in the provided whole grain bread crumb samples. We are fully cooperating with the FDA investigation to identify the source of the problem.
Cans of the affected product are labeled with the product names “Gia Russa Unseasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs” UPC 0-26825-01853-2 or “Gia Russa Whole Grain Italian Seasoned Bread Crumbs” UPC 0-26825-01854-9. The affected product are net weight of 10 oz. and are labeled “best by:”

The date code can be found on the bottom of the can. These products are safe for consumption for individuals who do not have tree nut allergies.
The Zidian Group supplies Gia Russa whole grain bread crumbs nationwide through wholesale distributors and retail stores.
